Web Content and Database Intern

My Role

While interning at ArtsWestchester (formerly known as the Westchester Arts Council), I was responsible for reviewing and redesigning webpages in need of a fresh look. One of my important projects was redesigning the Exhibition page. In my role as an intern, I successfully guided the organization through the process of overhauling the website by utilizing UX/UI practices, competitor analysis, and design.

I showcased my design proposal. After receiving the thumbs up, I recreated the entire design through WordPress.

The Challenge

There were several challenges with this webpage. The main issue was that the page was too long and contained an excessive amount of cluttered information. It did not clearly distinguish between current and past exhibitions, and it needed a more optimized way to separate the two.

Understanding the User

After receiving the problem, I identified the target audience for this webpage. There is a broad audience looking at this webpage daily like artists, art organizations, supporters, and families.

Information Architecture

The Solution

When I was tasked with redesigning the ArtsWestchester exhibition webpage, my goal is to create a seamless experience where visitors could easily explore upcoming, current, and past exhibitions. However, the original layout lacked organization, and users often struggled to navigate throughout the content, missing out key exhibits.

I presented the staff of ArtsWestchester with a fresh redesign after consolidating with them. I decided to separate the categories into three: ongoing, current, and past exhibitions. These categories are placed in different tabs to avoid having a long and cluttered webpage and to make it easier to distinguish between the current and past exhibitions.

By simplifying the layout and focusing on these three core exhibition categories, I transformed the page into a more intuitive, user-friendly platform that better served the needs of ArtsWestchester's diverse audience. The new webpage is up and running, helping promote exciting exhibitions all over the county, as well as spread cultural events and workshop opportunities all throughout Westchester NY.
